The study on the fungus-to-fungus interactions of the biotrophic fungus Phakopsora pachyrhizi Syd. & P. Syd., which causes Asian soybean rust (ASR) in soy beans, and the hyperparasite Lecanicillium uredinophilum, was recently published in the journal, Plant-Environment Interactions. The research team made use of fluorescence, confocal and and SEM to study the ultrastructure of these interactions at the University of KwaZulu-Natal Microscopy and Microanalysis Unit (MMU) with the help of Ntombozuko Matyumza and Tivana Moonsamy.
