Amira-Avizo Software training across SA

In May 2026, Scientific and Precision Solutions together with ThermoFisher Scientifc hosted hands-on workshops on Amira-Avizo Software at various academic institutions in South Africa. The workshops were tailored for scientists, academic researchers and students working imaging and 3D data. The idea of the workshops was to expose participants to the latest full scale image analysis software and what it offers the user.

Workshops were held at the University of Pretoria (6 May), University of the Witwatersrand (7 May), University of Cape Town (11 May) and finally to the Stellenbosch University researchers (12 May 2026).

Participants were given full access and training on the software where they explored 3D visualization and segmentation as well as the use of AI-powered tools for optimised workflows where they were able to extract meaningful insights from complex data. They were able to upload and process some of their own images. Participants at the workshops were from various departments and research groups ranging from life sciences to materials research.

Among the key takeaways and feedback received, users indicated ease of use, extremely deep analysis’s ability, including statical data outputs, correlative/comparative analysis as well as workflow ability which make the software extremely powerful. Users further indicated the tools at hand gave them the incite to explore other imaging techniques they never thought were needed for their research, thus opening an entirely new sphere of exploration they would have never considered. It was clear that this type of image analysis has become a necessity in any imaging facility or research that required image analysis.
